Dunkery View

This predominantly single storey, arts and craft style dwelling is located on a platform of land with far reaching views across Porlock Vale towards the Exmoor Hills. Formerly divided into two properties, the internal layout was cellular and divided by a long corridor. A previous loft conversion had provided two first floor rooms, but these were accessed by a ladder hatch part way along the corridor.

Our brief was to re-design the interior layout and create a much more fluid arrangement of accommodation within the house with more open plan living spaces and to make the most of the glorious western aspect of the property by improving the relationship of interior to exterior.

Our clients were also keen to use improve the energy efficiency of their home and make use of renewable energy, including installing a ground source hear pump, and they also required more generous en suite double bedrooms. The overall intention was to create a less cluttered, fresh and modern home with improved access to the first floor, and with a better relationship with the garden.

We worked with our clients to achieve planning approval for the proposals and they then project managed the build, undertaking a lot of the work themselves, with great results.
