Philosophy

It is unusual to find an architectural practice founded by a modernist in the depths of the countryside, let alone a female modernist. Though Louise operates in a region full of listed buildings, an area from which the practice draws a large amount of it’s work, she calls her style ‘ sensitive contemporary’.

Louise Crossman Architects, was established in Withycombe, West Somerset in 1989 with a second office opening in Exeter in 2008. The practice has won wide recognition for the design and execution of buildings that show a high degree of care and consideration. With the Withycombe office located in an area of outstanding natural beauty and the Exeter office in the centre of a cultural and historic city, the practice’s ethics are driven by the landscape and building traditions of the region, bringing sustainable, imaginative solutions and contemporary design to buildings, old and new.

With our sixteen strong team, we seek to provide a professional service that is appropriate to the needs of the project, the budget and the timescale. As well as architectural design, the practice has specific expertise in planning issues, historic buildings, conservation and sustainable construction.

...... clarity, communication and a good working relationship between client, architect and the rest of the team are crucial to the success of the project.......
